The Franklin Park Coalition in Dorchester will welcome CEP students for this volunteer event. During this particular service day we have planned to move a shed, and clear brush in the park. This should be a fun and exciting team building exercise and everyone is invited to join in.

SCI has AmeriCorps members at various host sites across Eastern Massachusetts.  SCI AmeriCorps members aim to build social capital in their communities through civic engagement opportunities, while gaining valuable experience in the process!  
 
SCI AmeriCorps is now recruiting 25 full-time AmeriCorps members for positions at our partner sites. Members are divided into two teams, Youth Leadership Coordinators and Volunteer Outreach Coordinators, and serve for ten months beginning in September 2015.  Click here for more information!
 
 
 

Volunteer at SCI's 2015 Social Capitalist Luncheon!

SCI's annual Luncheon is one of our primary fundraising activities. Funds raised support our efforts to foster healthy communities and train the leaders of tomorrow. 
 
Volunteers are needed on April 2nd at the Sheraton Boston from 10;30am-12:30pm to help with the registration process. Volunteers will receive a free lunch and a chance to see Maestro Ben Zander of the (Boston Philharmonic) and Eric Schwarz (cofounder of Citizen Schools) honored as 2015 SCI Idealists! Be "Part of the Solution" with Lynn's HALT Conference

Join SCI AmeriCorpsJoin SCI AmeriCorps Member, Benine Mudymba, and Part of the Solution (POS), in planning this year's HALT Conference! HALT is a yearly gathering of teens from around the city of Lynn to celebrate the power of youth voices and drive positive change within the community.

The conference is completely free and includes teen centered workshops, community resource tables, free food, performances from community leaders, and a celebration dance.

Urban Farm seeking volunteers for Spring 2015

Victory Programs' Revision Urban Farm is currently booking group volunteer opportunities for the 2015 Season (Mid-March – Mid-November).
Volunteers must be a least 12 and up. We can accommodate groups up to 12 people on Tuesdays - Fridays. We ask volunteers to commit to three hours. Volunteer shifts vary by date.

Be a transition coach for 1st generation and low income college students

Let's Get Ready (LGR) is a college access and success organization that mobilizes and trains college students and recent college graduates to be volunteer coaches, mentors, and role-models for low-income and first-generation college-bound students. LGR works with students in 9 states in the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions. Let's Get Ready-New England is looking for volunteer Transition Coaches who will volunteer 3-4/hours a week to provide over-the-phone and in-person counseling to transition our high school seniors to college. If interested, please submit an application.

Help grant a wish for a critically ill child

For more than 32 years, A Wish Come True, Inc. has been granting wishes to children age 3 through 18 who suffer from life threatening illnesses, and live in Rhode Island and parts of southeastern Massachusetts. It has been quite a journey, and the lives of countless children and their families have been positively impacted as a result of this journey.

If you would like to help out, join us on Monday, February 9th from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club, 803 Bedford Street. Volunteers are needed to help stuff envelopes for the annual A Wish Come True fundraiser.  Volunteers of all ages are welcome. 

Volunteer as a tax assistant for low income neighbors in Boston

Sponsored by the Boston Tax Help Coalition (formerly Boston EITC Coalition), Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA) volunteers help low income clients prepare their federal and state tax returns. Volunteers must commit at least 3 hours a week during the tax preparation season, which runs from January to April 15 each year. All positions require the ability to work sensitively and effectively with clients of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Bilingual in Haitian Creole or Spanish preferred but not required. Join SCI's 2015 MLK Day of Service in Franklin Park!

 
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2015, Social Capital Inc., along with our community partners, will host a volunteer service learning event in Franklin Park with the Franklin Park Coalition. Volunteers will work on woodlands restoration by cleaning the park, as well as reflect on current civil rights issues, the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, and the connection between the two. 
 
Join us at the Franklin Park Clubhouse in the morning for discussions and activities about civil rights issues, past and present. Afterwards we’ll head into the park to help clear invasives that are killing young native trees and do other green improvement projects. 
 
The Franklin Park Coalition, an SCI host partner site, encourages health, wellness, and positive community connections. They run programs year-round, including volunteer days focusing on youth and civic engagement. 
 
Bring a bag lunch and snacks, we’ll have coffee and donuts to start the day.
