SCI 15th Anniversary Celebration

SCI 15th Anniversary Celebration

On November 16th community members and partners from across Massachusetts joined us in celebrating 15 years of building social capital.

We have put together a slideshow from the event showing a few of SCI's highlights and accomplishments over the past 15 years and a Facebook album with event photos. There were a few highlights from the program that were especially memorable.

At our 15th dinner, we were inspired by words from partners, public officials and AmeriCorps members. Thanks to Mayor Galvin as well as State Reps. Jim Dwyer and Jay Kaufman for offering official proclamations to mark our anniversary.

We appreciated timely words of wisdom from Secretary Jay Ash, "There is more that unites us than divides us," and from Pastor Mohanan Unni, "We become stronger as we embrace our differences, and strive to work together for liberty and justice for all," (read the full version of his remarks here).

Dr. Matt Crowley from Woburn Public Schools shared about his doctoral thesis work on social capital and immigrant students; and Ron Walker, Founder of COSEBOC and Deacon at St. John's Baptist Church spoke of the work we have done together to foster dialogue and inspire young civic activists.

As is often the case, one of our most memorable speakers was a 2nd year SCI AmeriCorps, Victoria Williams. She spoke of the healing powers of service and social capital for the teens she serves, "Through service, volunteerism, and making connections with one another they are...on their way to brighter days, just like me!"

SCI is thankful for the interest and support of our work that help to create vital connections in our communities. At the event we shared 15 Ways You Can Help SCI, to provide some ideas as to ways you can help us make a difference for another 15 years. Please reach out if you'd like to explore any of these options or other ideas for engaging with our important work.
