Pairing Good Food, Wine and Conversation

The Group getting food at the Wine PairingFood is a great way to bring people together, and enjoying some good wine along with the food doesn't hurt conversation either! We definitely put together the ingredients for a fun event last night at the Griffin Museum in Winchester.

Over 50 people gathered for the SCI Wine & Food Pairing fundraiser last night.  Guests had a chance to sample a lineup of five food items each served with a wine picked specially to complement the dish.  We appeciate the help of Lori and Ray Schaefer of Pairings Wine and Food  of Winchester for their help putting together a great lineup of pairings. Lori and Ray Schaefer of Pairings Wine and FoodLast night gave me another chance to put my interest in cooking in service of our cause--I've got the lineup of food and wine posted over on my Cooking Chat blog if you're interested in more detail on that front.

At SCI, we love bringing people from different networks together and fostering new connections.  Last night's groups was a nice mix of long-time partners and supporters, current and past AmeriCorps members.  Thanks to all who came to support our work and joined the fun!

Most of the time was devoted to informal conversation and sampling, but we did have a chance to share about SCI's work.  As always, a highlight was hearing from one of our AmeriCorps members.  SCI Board Chair, Al CalvoSusan Davis, an SCI AmeriCorps member serving at the North Suburban YMCA, shared how she has been able to increase the base of volunteers at the YMCA and how much that means for both the volunteers and institution--more on the role she and others play coordinating volunteers posted here.   Our Board Chair, Alberto Calvo, also spoke and shared about the recent paper Five Strategies to Revive Civic Communication, which highlighted SCI as a model program.  (I wrote about that previously here).

If you missed out on the fun this time, don't worry, I'm sure we will be finding ways to combine good food, wine and social capital building before too long!
