SCI puts on "Welcome Night" in Woburn

On September 26, Social Capital Inc. partnered with the Woburn Public schools to successfully put on "Welcome Night." The event provided an opportunity for families and students who had recently moved to Woburn to connect with local organizations and services such as the Woburn Public Library, the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club, the North Suburban YMCA, the International Learning Center, and many more. Attendees were able to speak with fellow parents and representatives from different Woburn schools in order to form connections with and hear advice from established and involved community members. Some participants took advantage of the translators that were available for Spanish and Portuguese speakers, which aided in ensuring that community members of all backgrounds were welcome and encouraged to make use of the many resources offered at the event. SCI was also able to provide refreshments to all of the participants thanks to generous donations from two local restaurants: Zaika Indian Bistro and Ixtapa Mexican Grill and Cantina. We hope to continue this iniative to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all Woburn citizens through further plans including a program that will match new families with families that have lived in Woburn for many years, to take place in the near future.
