Continuing our work with the Healthy Gloucester Collaborative (HGC), SCI staff members attended a Town Hall Fourm led by the HGC Youth Council on Wednesday, November 19th. Via PowerPoint, Council members presented data collected from a survey of Gloucester High Students regarding substance use (alcohol, marijuana, and opioids). According to the data, use of all three substances in Gloucester is high when compared to national and statewide data.

Following the presentation, SCI staff, including President David Crowley, faciliated comprehensive discussions of the data in three focus groups. Thanks to the professionalism and organization of the Youth Council in both presenting the data and recruiting a diverse group of Forum participants, a productive discussion of potential preventative measures ensued. Some ideas included peer to peer counseling and after-school/weekend programming for teens.
