Girls Inc. of Lynn

A local affiliate of the national organization aimed at inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold, Girls Inc. of Lynn primarily serves girls from Lynn, grades K-12, through various after-school and summer programs that feature fun activities which promote self-empowerment and awareness, healthy peer and adult relationships, and provide girls with a positive learning environment.
  • This year, led by SCI’s Youth Leadership , a core group of  teens has organized and run an open mic night,  Red Ribbon Week (during which the girls learn about the effects of drugs and alcohol), and weekly youth council meetings.

Lynn Youth Health Alliance

Part of Lynn Food and Fitness and Mass in Motion, the Lynn Youth Health Alliance is a group of teens in Lynn that are committed to improving the health of their community.  An SCI AmeriCorps member has been providing leadership in the organization's Youth Council, as well as tips for healthy eating and exercise.

  • Cooking Matters (a nonprofit that offers healthy cooking classes) connects with the Lynn Community Health Center (LCHC), leading to numerous healthy cooking classes being offered at the health center. Additionally, staff at the LCHC have started coming to Lynn Food and Fitness Alliance meetings, forging even more community connections.
