June 2008 |

Our year has flown by here at Social Capital
Inc. (SCI). It's hard to believe that we're
in the middle of our final month of the
program year. We've been very busy in this
year of significant growth, and aren't
slowing down at all in June. In fact, there
are a number of exciting events coming up
that will culminate a very successful year
for SCI. I hope you might get a chance to
join us for one or more of these events!

SCI Youth Civic Showcase & Awards Ceremony |
 |
SCI youth program participants are connecting
locally to host a civic project showcase, a
visual exhibition recapping their 2008
service term. The SCI Youth Council members
participated for nine months volunteering,
facilitating civic engagement projects, and
allocating over $14,000 to local initiatives
through the disbursement of mini-grants.
Youth Council members, youth from SCI
community partner organizations, and leaders
from Lynn, Woburn, and Dorchester will gather
in Boston at Bunker Hill Community College,
located at 250 New Rutherford Ave, Boston, MA
on Saturday, June 14 from 12 PM - 3 PM to
recognize the SCI youth program participants
for their tireless efforts to improve their
respective communities.

WorldFest Woburn 6/21 |

SCI will coordinate the second WorldFest
Woburn! to celebrate Woburn's increasing
diversity. The event features performances
and table displays with arts & crafts, food
and educational material from a wide array of
cultures. The event was initiated last year
based on discussions at SCI's annual Youth
Adult Connection sessions. The event is
free, from 3 PM - 6 PM on Saturday, June 21,
in Woburn Center.
There is still room for additional
exhibitors. More information is available at

MyDorchester Night 6/26 |
 |
"This is your night," Dorchester. Join us
for our first
community bridging event. This unique evening
will provide an opportunity for Dorchester
residents to expand their personal and
community networks, to connect with neighbors
and local artists, to share opportunities to
volunteer, engage and collaborate while
enjoying live music, and light refreshments.
MyDorchester Night will be held on Thursday,
June 26 at DotWell, located at 450
Washington Street in Codman Square, from
6 PM - 9PM. This will be a social and
entertaining event featuring community
notables, four social networking rooms, and
an art gallery. All Dorchester residents are
invited to add their neighborhood's flavor to
MyDorchester Night by nominating one of their
favorite community storytellers, artists or
groups to headline the entertainment showcase
room. All are welcome to this free community
celebration. Help get involved to make this
event a huge success!
