R. Wade Johnson Memorial Golf Tournament

The Rotary Club of Woburn will put on its 16th Annual R. Wade Johnson Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit Charities of the Rotary Club of Woburn.  One of the charities that the Tournament supports is Social Capital Inc.!

This tournament will take place on June 14th, 2010 at the Charter Oak Country Club in Hudson, MA.

Register and pay by May 28th, and you are eligible to win a free foursome to Charter Oak CC at a later date!

Sew a Smile

The Woburn Senior Center, 144 School Street, will host the “Sew a Smile” program on Monday, May 17th and also Monday May 24th from 10am to Noon.  Volunteers are encouraged to attend to sew hospital gowns for children facing surgery in impoverished countries.  Community volunteers who can sew are encouraged to help us provide hospital gowns to children receiving surgery.  In addition “Smile Dolls” will be sewn and used by therapists to alleviate the fear of anesthesia, stethoscopes and needles while communicating their medical procedures to the children  read more »

Horn Pond Memorial Lantern Walk

The Horn Pond Memorial Lantern Walk is open to all who wish to walk together to remember our cherished loved ones who have passed away from our earth. We light our lanterns to signify our connections with each other and those whose spirits are still with us. Each year hundreds of lantern walkers circle Horn Pond together with light. Library volunteer Linda Olsson will present  another “Farino Photo
Program”.  This is a presentation of photos from the Patrick J.  Farino
Collection and are images of assorted places and events in Woburn
throughout the 1950s.  Some photos will be easily identified but others may
be more difficult.  Audience members will be encouraged to help us identify

Stroll with Sue Ellen Holland as she takes us back to the hey-day of Woburn's downtown. There was a time when Friday and Saturday night meant a visit to the Strand Theater and a walk through a busy and vibrant Woburn Center. Cars lined the streets and pedestrians greeted each other in passing or stopped to share the news of the day. There was so much happening in downtown that several policemen were strategically stationed on the weekends to move the crowds and the traffic.  read more »

Dancing with the DJ

Dancing with the DJ is a dance benefit for Friends Helping Seniors.  The goal of this event is to help the group raise money for a new senior van.  The dance will take place at 7:30 on Friday, May 7th at the Sons of Italy Hall.

Tickets are $10 per person and are available at the Woburn Senior Center.  Call 781-897-5960 for further information.

Friends Helping Seniors is a nonprofit with 501c3 classification.  read more »

On Saturday, May 1st, 2010, the Woburn Historical Society and the Charlestown Militia will present the 4th annual Pathway of the Patriots at the Tarky Field, off Russell Street, in Woburn.

This living history program, sponsored by the Northern Bank and Trust Company and the Lennon Insurance Agency, celebrates the roles of the Woburn Militia, their families, and Woburn residents in the events of April 19th, 1775, and the Revolutionary War.  read more »

Children Celebrate Earth Day at the Library

To celebrate Earth Day, the Children’s Room of the Woburn Public Library invites children of all ages to come in and make earth friendly pots, then plant seeds to take home and grow. Pots will be made from newspaper, so we’ll be recycling and using a biodegradeable pot at the same time. Seeds, earth, and pot-making materials will be supplied. Join us Thursday, April 22, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. till noon for this earth friendly project. Children under the age of 7 should have an adult accompany them to help. See you there!  read more »
